Will snails overpopulate my tank?
It depends on the type. Nerite snails cannot reproduce in freshwater, so their population stays constant. Mystery snails breed in freshwater but at a slow rate — a small group won't overrun a tank. Rabbit snails are among the slowest breeders in the hobby, producing one offspring at a time.
Are snails compatible with freshwater shrimp?
The snails in this collection are generally peaceful and commonly kept with freshwater shrimp. As with any livestock combination, observe your tank after introducing new animals and check individual product pages for any specific notes.
Do snails need special food?
Most freshwater snails graze on algae, biofilm, and leftover fish food naturally. You can supplement with blanched vegetables like zucchini or spinach, and sinking wafers are appreciated. Calcium is important for shell health — hard water helps, or you can add a small piece of cuttlebone to the tank.
What is the difference between Nerite, Mystery, and Rabbit snails?
Nerites are smaller, patterned, and excellent algae eaters — they can't breed in freshwater. Mystery snails are rounder, colorful, and slow breeders. Rabbit snails are elongated, striking in appearance, very slow breeders, and tend to be kept as display animals as much as cleanup crew.
Can snails escape from an aquarium?
Mystery snails in particular are known to climb above the waterline — a tight-fitting lid is recommended. Rabbit snails are less prone to wandering. Nerites may occasionally climb but rarely leave the tank entirely.
