Amano Shrimp Care: Tank Setup, Diet and Algae Control

Amano shrimp on planted aquarium hardscape

Amano shrimp need a fully cycled, stable freshwater aquarium with intentional feeding and a secure setup. They may graze algae and biofilm, but they are not a substitute for diagnosing the cause of an algae problem.

At Razz Aquatics, we plan Amano shrimp around tank maturity, safe filtration and food availability—not a promise that they will clean a tank on their own.

Amano shrimp care checklist

Cycled tank
Ammonia and nitrite should be zero before shrimp arrive.
Protected intake
Use shrimp-safe filtration and avoid exposed suction.
Food plan
Supplement grazing with measured appropriate food.
Secure aquarium
Use a lid and avoid abrupt maintenance changes.

Algae expectations

Amano shrimp may graze algae, but algae growth usually requires attention to light, nutrients, maintenance and plant health. Do not add livestock as a replacement for correcting the underlying cause.
