Lotus Pod — 1 Pack

Lotus Pods are distinctive dried aquarium botanicals with honeycomb-like chambers that add natural structure to shrimp tanks, planted aquariums, and blackwater-style setups. The textured pod creates surfaces where biofilm can develop and sheltered spaces that shrimp and fry can explore.

As the pod conditions underwater, it may gradually release tannins that add a natural amber tint. Each pod naturally varies in shape, color, and size, making every aquascape placement unique.

⚠ Important Notes
  • May float initially and may tint the water amber as tannins release. Add botanicals gradually and monitor aquarium parameters, especially in small or low-alkalinity aquariums. Natural shape, color, and size vary.

Why It Works

Product Highlights

01

Textured Biofilm Grazing Surface

The pod’s honeycomb-like chambers create extensive surfaces where biofilm can develop for grazing shrimp and shrimplets.

02

Gentle Botanical Tannins

May gradually release tannins that add a natural amber tint suited to botanical and blackwater-style aquariums.

03

Distinctive Natural Structure

Each pod adds a unique sculptural element while creating sheltered spaces for shrimp and fry to explore.

How to Use

Prep & Placement

Rinse the pod thoroughly. Boil for 10–15 minutes, then soak it in fresh, dechlorinated water for 12–24 hours or until waterlogged. Allow it to cool completely before placing it in the aquarium. If it still floats, continue soaking or secure it temporarily with an aquarium-safe weight.

Start with one pod and observe the water tint and aquarium parameters before adding other tannin-releasing botanicals. Position the chambers where shrimp can easily graze and explore.

Quick Setup Checklist
  • Rinse under warm water to remove dust
  • Boil 10–15 minutes or soak 24–48 hours to release initial tannins
  • Sink to the bottom or wedge into hardscape
  • Replace every 4–8 weeks as it breaks down naturally
  • Safe to use multiple pieces for higher tannin output

Common Questions

Lotus Pod — 1 Pack FAQ

Is a Lotus Pod suitable for a shrimp aquarium?+
Yes, when it is thoroughly rinsed and prepared as directed. Its textured chambers create sheltered areas and surfaces where biofilm can develop for grazing shrimp.
Will the pod float?+
It may float initially because air remains trapped in its chambers. Additional soaking or temporary use of an aquarium-safe weight can help until it becomes fully waterlogged.
How many should I use?+
Start with one pod and observe the water tint and aquarium parameters. Add botanicals gradually, especially in small or low-alkalinity aquariums.
How is it shipped?+
Packed securely and shipped Monday through Thursday via standard ground shipping. Plants and dry goods ship free at $75+. Transit times vary by location.
How should I prepare it before adding it to my tank?+
Rinse thoroughly, boil for 10–15 minutes, and then soak in fresh, dechlorinated water for 12–24 hours or until waterlogged. Allow it to cool completely before aquarium use.
Will it tint my aquarium water?+
It may gradually release tannins that create a light amber tint. The intensity varies by pod and aquarium volume. Boiling and pre-soaking can reduce the initial tint.
How long will it last?+
Longevity varies with water conditions and livestock activity. Leave it in place while it remains structurally sound, and remove or replace it if it breaks down beyond the look or function you want.
Can I order this with livestock?+
Yes. Dry goods can ship together with livestock orders.
