Stunning in planted tanks
Peaceful community fish
Celestial Pearl Danios — also known as Galaxy Rasboras — are among the most visually striking nano fish ever discovered. The deep blue-black body is covered in pearlescent white spots, and the fins of males flash brilliant red and orange. At under an inch, a school of 10–15 in a planted tank looks like a moving constellation.
Described by science in 2006 from a small lake in Myanmar, CPDs became immediately popular and have been captive-bred ever since. They are one of the most reliably shrimp-safe fish available. Every CPD we ship is quarantined at our facility before departure.
Care Notes
CPDs need appropriately small food — micro pellets, micro worms, and baby brine shrimp. Standard pellets are too large. Feed small amounts twice daily. They prefer planted tanks with dark substrate, mature water, and moderate to low flow. Males can be mildly territorial; a larger school and dense planting reduces this. Dim lights for the first few days after arrival.
Avoid keeping with fin-nippers or fish large enough to eat them. They are shrimp-safe and among the best fish for planted shrimp setups.

Why We Love This Fish
01
A Living Constellation
White pearl spots on deep blue-black bodies, red-orange fin flashes on males. A school of 15 CPDs in a planted tank is one of the most striking visuals in the freshwater hobby.
02
The Safest Fish for Shrimp Tanks
CPD mouths are physically too small to eat adult shrimp. In a planted tank with good cover, they are one of the few fish we recommend without reservation alongside shrimp.
03
Tiny Fish, Big Personality
Males display, court, and spar constantly. Watch a proper school for five minutes and you will understand why CPDs have one of the most dedicated followings in nano fish keeping.
Community Tank
Compatible Tank Mates
These nano fish coexist well with shrimp and other peaceful invertebrates.
Larger tetras and barbs that may bully or nip fins
Cichlids and aggressive mid-water fish
Expert Advice
Razz Aquatics Recommendation
Keep a school of at least 10 — CPDs colour up dramatically in larger groups and display natural spawning and schooling behaviour that smaller groups never show. A 20-gallon long planted tank with dark substrate, Java Moss, and a school of 12–15 CPDs alongside Neocaridina shrimp is one of the most consistently impressive nano setups you can build. Common Questions
Celestial Pearl Danio / Galaxy Rasbora FAQ
Are CPDs safe with shrimp?+
Yes — one of the best fish for shrimp tanks. CPDs are too small to eat adult shrimp, and in a planted tank with cover they pose minimal risk to shrimplets.
What tank size do they need?+
10-gallon minimum. A 20-gallon long gives more room for a larger school. Avoid very tall tanks — CPDs prefer mid-water depth.
How do I acclimate CPDs?+
Float the bag 15 minutes for temperature. Drip-acclimate at 2–3 drops per second for 30–60 minutes. Net the fish into the tank — never add bag water. Dim lights for the first few hours.
How are these fish shipped?+
Via Overnight / UPS Next Day Air. Professionally packed in an insulated box with a heat or cold pack matched to your local weather. Fish ship Monday through Thursday and deliver Tuesday through Friday.
Is there a live arrival guarantee?+
Yes — 100% Live Arrival Guarantee on every order. Photo any DOA in the sealed bag on the day of delivery and submit a claim through the Start a Claim page. Approved claims are resolved with store credit, refund, or replacement at Razz Aquatics’ discretion.
How many should I buy?+
10 minimum — 15 or more is better. CPDs in small groups are shy and pale. In a proper school they display full colour, active spawning behaviour, and constant movement.
What do CPDs eat?+
Micro pellets small enough for their tiny mouths, micro worms, and baby brine shrimp. Feed small amounts twice daily.
Why does fish shipping cost more?+
Fish ship via Overnight / Next Day Air to minimise stress and maximise live arrival success. This is reflected in the shipping cost at checkout.
What is the free shipping threshold?+
Free Overnight on fish orders $200+. Overnight shipping applies below that threshold. Plants and dry goods ship free at $75+.
Live plants give nano fish cover, reduce stress, and create a more natural aquarium. They help break up sightlines, provide shelter for shy fish, and support a healthier planted tank.
