Celestial Pearl Danios — also known as Galaxy Rasboras — are among the most visually striking nano fish in the hobby. Their deep blue-black bodies are covered in pearlescent white spots, while mature males develop vivid red-orange fin coloration. At under an inch, a well-kept group creates constant movement without overwhelming a planted aquarium.
Described by science in 2006 from Myanmar, CPDs have become a staple of planted nano aquariums. They are generally compatible with adult shrimp, although newly hatched shrimplets may still be at risk. Every CPD we ship is quarantined and observed at our Iowa facility before departure.
Care Notes
CPDs need appropriately small food — micro pellets, micro worms, baby brine shrimp, and finely crushed flake. Feed small amounts once or twice daily. They prefer planted tanks with mature water and moderate-to-low flow. Males can be mildly territorial; keeping a larger group with dense planting helps spread that behavior.
In our experience, they settle in best with dim lighting after arrival and plenty of plant cover. They are generally safe with adult shrimp, but newly hatched shrimplets may still be eaten if caught.

We recommend keeping at least 10 Celestial Pearl Danios. In our experience, larger groups are more active, less shy, and show stronger coloration and more natural social behavior. A planted 20-gallon long with dark substrate, moss, and a group of 12–15 CPDs makes an excellent nano display. We feed ours small pellets, baby brine shrimp, and other appropriately sized foods. Celestial Pearl Danios are generally safe with adult Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp. Their small mouths make adult shrimp unlikely prey, but newly hatched shrimplets may still be eaten if caught. Dense moss and planting improve shrimplet survival.
What tank size do Celestial Pearl Danios need?+
10 gallons is the minimum we recommend. A 20-gallon long gives more room for a larger group and planted cover. CPDs generally do better with horizontal swimming space than very tall tanks.

Yes. They are hardy once acclimated and do well in stable, mature aquariums. Their main requirements are appropriately small food, clean water, a proper-sized group, and peaceful tank mates.
