Stunning in planted tanks
Peaceful community fish
Ember Tetras are one of the most popular nano fish in the planted tank hobby. Their vivid orange-red colouration against a planted backdrop with dark substrate is immediately striking — a school of 15 looks like scattered embers drifting through plants. At under an inch, one of the smallest tetras available.
Native to the Araguaia River basin in Brazil, they prefer warm, slightly acidic water and planted environments. Completely safe with all shrimp and among the top recommendations for shrimp-focused planted tanks. Every fish we ship is quarantined before departure.
Care Notes
Ember Tetras need small-mouthed appropriate food: micro pellets or crushed small flake, micro worms, and baby brine shrimp. They prefer slightly warmer, soft, acidic water but adapt well to stable conditions. Dark substrate makes their orange-red colouration most vivid. Completely peaceful with all tank mates.
Keep in groups of at least 8–10. Small groups are shy and stay near cover. A proper school fills the mid-water with constant, glowing movement. Safe with all shrimp species — mouths too small to harm even shrimplets.

Compatible Tank Mates
These nano fish coexist well with shrimp and other peaceful invertebrates.
Keep 10–15 in a planted 20-gallon with dark substrate and moderate lighting. A school of Ember Tetras alongside Neocaridina shrimp is one of the most popular and effective nano setups in the hobby. Fish ship Overnight / Next Day Air — choose your delivery date at checkout.

Live plants give nano fish cover, reduce stress, and create a more natural aquarium. They help break up sightlines, provide shelter for shy fish, and support a healthier planted tank.
