Pygmy Corydoras are among the smallest Corydoras species at just 1 inch. What makes them distinctive is their mid-water swimming behaviour — unlike most Corydoras that stay near the bottom, Pygmies regularly school in open water, creating a shimmering moving group through the lower-to-mid water column of a nano planted tank.
Native to South American tributaries, they prefer clean water and planted environments with fine substrate. Perfectly sized for 10-gallon planted nano tanks. Every fish we ship is quarantined before departure.
Care Notes
Pygmy Corydoras are unique among Corydoras in that they are active mid-water swimmers as well as bottom dwellers — you will often see them schooling in open water. Feed micro-sized sinking foods and mid-water foods: micro pellets, frozen daphnia, micro worms. Fine sand or smooth substrate is still required for when they do forage on the bottom.
Keep in groups of at least 8–10. They are true schooling fish and show the mid-water schooling behaviour only in groups. Completely peaceful, safe with all shrimp and snails. Never use copper-based medications.
Keep 10 or more in a 10–20 gallon planted tank with fine sand or smooth substrate and open mid-water space. The mid-water schooling behaviour is the highlight.
