Rummynose Tetras are celebrated for their schooling behaviour. A group of 15–20 in a large planted tank forms a dense, shimmering school that turns, dives, and rises as a single unit — one of the most impressive natural behaviours observable in a home aquarium. The bright red snout and black-and-white tail fin pattern make the school unmistakeable.
Native to the Amazon basin, they prefer warm, soft, slightly acidic conditions but adapt to stable quality tap water. The intensity of red coloration is a reliable indicator of tank health. Every fish we ship is quarantined before departure.
Care Notes
Rummynose Tetras are more sensitive to water quality than many tetras — the red on their snout fades when water quality declines, making them useful indicator fish. They prefer warm, soft, slightly acidic water. Feed quality small pellets, flake, and occasional frozen foods. Keep water clean and parameters stable.
Keep in groups of at least 10 — the tight schooling behaviour that makes them spectacular only emerges in larger groups. Peaceful with all tank mates and safe with adult shrimp in planted tanks.
